“The Vehicle Defect Clearing System (VDCS) is a service intended to improve the monitoring of heavy vehicles in Dubai through fitting them with mandatory Telematics in order to track their defects and monitor driver attitudes,” said Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO for the RTA’s licensing agency.

The monitoring devices on heavy vehicles will be linked to the RTA’s road patrols to identify violating vehicles.

The system will calculate and classify the risks of drivers, vehicles and operators who fail to comply with RTA’s standards. It will use a rating system that will collate data from roadside technical inspections, remote detection of faults and the annual technical inspection.

During inspections, points will be assigned for each fault or offence, based on the gravity and number of detected faults to produce a final rating out of ten, and a green, yellow and red colour coding.

Bahrozyan added: “The RTA is in constant pursuit of advanced solutions to improve the traffic awareness and road safety levels involving the exploration of smart projects and systems, and this procedure is in line with the world-class assessment of risks of vehicles, drivers and operators.”

The goal of the project is to the number of accidents caused by heavy vehicles and to encourage safe driving habits.
