Hundreds of classic cars are now on display along Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown Dubai till Sunday.

The line-up includes sports, luxury and vintage models from different eras: some of the cars date back to 1916 while the more recent ones date back to around the mid-1980s. There are also some motor bikes and trucks on display.

The festival is open to the public free of charge and includes a photo gallery of past festivals and short films on classic cars. Visitors also have a chance to speak to some of the owners of the hard-to-find cars.

The festival was inaugurated by Emirati motorsports star Mohammad Bin Sulayem in the presence of other dignitaries. Sulayem is the president of the Automotive and Touring Club of the UAE, which organised the festival in collaboration with Emaar Properties and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development.

There are around 300 cars on show — and nearly 10 per cent of them belong to Dubai-based car collector Mazen Al Khatib. He has a total of 50 cars in his private collection, 30 of which are on show at the festival. One of his favourites — the Jaguar E-Type that was in production from 1961 to 1972 — is also on show.

The festival, now in its biggest edition, also features awards for cars and live restoration of classic cars.
