Dubai: Driving without carrying a licence or vehicle registration card won’t be an offence now as the new Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) mobile application makes the cards available on the go.

RTA has added m-store to its Drivers and Vehicles app that will have any Dubai-issued licence and vehicle registration card or distinguished number plate stored.

A motorist has to sign in with his or her RTA registered ID and password on the app to have all the details on the screen.

“Once signed in, the application will display the fines issued on the registered vehicle number or the licence number, and on m-store inside the app both the registration cards and licence cards will be available,” said Ahmad Hashem Behroozian, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency.

n case a person does not have a registered online profile with RTA, it can be done through the app or on RTA’s website, www.rta.ae, and the same ID and password can be used to access all RTA applications.

To access the registration cards and licence on the go, the motorist has to create a profile and link the profile with his or her traffic file

“All the vehicle registration cards have a traffic file number which can be seen on the back of the card. Once a person keys in the traffic file number all the data, including the registration card, licence and all the number plates registered under the particular traffic file, will be available on the app,” said Behroozian.

In the long run, Nol cards as well as seasonal parking cards registered under a person’s name will also be available on the app.

Behroozian clarified that the cards displayed on the app can be used for all official purposes but the original cards will not be substituted by the e-cards for now.

“We have informed the Dubai Police and the Ministry of Interior about the new development and they will accept the cards on m-store in case of accidents as official documents during accidents or for any cases, but the e-cards won’t replace the original cards for now,” added Behroozian.

Another key feature of the app is that it enables people to share their registration cards and licence through email and social media if required for any official purpose.

Behroozian, who is also the head of the RTA Team Overseeing Roadmap for Transition to Smart Government, said that the initiative is part of efforts to transform Dubai into the smartest city worldwide within the next three years.

RTA is on track to launch at least 200 smart services via smartphones by the end of 2015.
